Digipigi - for a new start in the digital discussion
A culture of debate characterized by polarization and defamation threatens not only the individual, but our entire democratic order. So what can we do? Take responsibility for what we leave behind in the digital space. When online discussions become heated again, Digipigi reminds us of the respectful exchange of opinions as the foundation of our democracy.
How do you do that? By donating to organizations that strengthen democracy, you take responsibility for verbal missteps and show that you are sorry. Our donation generator recommends specific donation amounts and behaviors depending on the verbal slip. In this way, we not only promote awareness of the digital culture of conversation, but also strengthen the organizations that care about cohesion in our society. And of course, this also applies to all friends of democracy: your donation is the mortar that keeps the wall of democracy strong.
If we make the digital world a little friendlier, the world out there will be brighter, better. Digipigi helps with this.
Why we need a platform for friends of democracy
Taking stock: digitalization has profoundly changed us and the way we live together. An unbridled flow of opinions and information not only promotes exchange, but unfortunately also disinformation and social division. Populists use language to polarize debates, which encourages extremism and threatens democracies. According to the Bertelsmann Foundation, there are now more autocracies than democracies. The danger that even seemingly stable democracies will collapse is real.
So what can we do? Two factors are crucial to countering political polarization and digital disinformation:
(1) Strengthening and exemplifying a respectful digital debate culture
(2) Active support for forces that strengthen democracy
Our democracy platform is dedicated to precisely these two points. We are building an editorial information area on these exciting topics and offer a curated donation portal for organizations that strengthen democracy. And because language is so important, there is our remorse calculator, which attaches a price tag to verbal transgressions with a fine mixture of seriousness and a playful touch: Be kind or pay the prize. All this together is the Digipigi, the inclusive democracy platform. New times need new forms of democratic engagement.

Democratic, but non-partisan:
Our platform is above party political discourse. We are not concerned with left or right, but with democracy and its values.
Respectful, but not know-it-all:
A friendly, neutral choice of words and respect for other opinions is much more than a question of politeness: democracies depend on people talking to each other and political decisions being constantly renegotiated. In the vast majority of cases, life is far too complex for one truth and know-it-all opinions. It is true: Shades of gray and compromises can be annoying at times, they can be tough and unsatisfying. But the reward for the efforts of democracy is a life in freedom.
Inclusive, but not arbitrary:
We are realistic: anyone who deliberately sets out to hurt, insult or slander, anyone who uses hate speech to defame other people, will probably not be persuaded to change their mindset by our platform. However, we want to use the remorse calculator and our editorial content to reach out to all those who may have used offensive language but do not want to deliberately hurt others. Not everyone who uses bad language is an extremist. It's a case for Digipigi.

Because the Internet is the central place for debate today. Piggy means piggy in English, Piggy Bank is the English term for piggy bank. We have declared the pig, or rather the little pig, a heroic figure: it watches over the tone in online debates, it raises its finger when someone behaves "like a pig". It mutates into a piggy bank for democracy-promoting organizations. And anyone who has ever had close contact with these animals knows how clever and great these creatures can be. So there could hardly be a better name for our platform... The organization behind Digipigi is the non-profit Digitalschwein gUG. This means that our platform does not make any profits. We use the funds that are available to us exclusively for the platform and its expansion. We stick to a simple, transparent formula: 80% of the donations go directly to the organizations you have selected to strengthen democracy. With the remaining 20%, we try to make our platform bigger, better known and increasingly attractive. We decide together with our partner organizations whether this split will remain, whether we will invest more or less in content, partnerships, public image and reach. As soon as there are any changes to the donation split, this will be communicated here immediately. Clear motto: Sow transparency, reap trust. We have big plans - and we want to underline this ambition with ambitious donation targets. If we have our way, Digipigi will become the "one stop place" for democracy issues and debate culture. First in German-speaking countries and then worldwide. Are you megalomaniacs? Perhaps. But we agree with John Lennon: "You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one." We don't necessarily expect our partner organizations to receive millions in donations in the initial phase, but we would like to give people or companies that have such opportunities at least an impetus to think in such dimensions. Anything is possible with your support. Digipigi is committed to a respectful culture of debate and democracy. These two things are important to us and are non-negotiable. You can discuss any other topic among yourselves: Is gendering really important or really stupid? Should we supply Tauris systems to Ukraine? Are bullfights a cultural asset worth protecting or cruelty to animals? Democracy thrives on debate and controversy, and things cannot and should not always be harmonious. This also includes clear language. However, Digipigi is very committed to ensuring that we stick to the point in all controversies and that we do not belittle our discussion partners - this is exactly what makes for good discourse.Your title
