Everyone has the right and the potential to participate in decision-making.

Don't we all have the right and the ability to have a say and help shape decisions that affect our lives together? For us, democracy means that people negotiate with each other about how they want to live together. It is not about the opinion of individuals prevailing, but about everyone having the opportunity to actively participate.

Parliamentary democracy promises us the struggle for the best solution. However, we often find that power politics triumphs over substantive politics. Changing this requires a far-reaching reform of our political structures. That is why we are developing innovative tools, formats and models to further develop and strengthen democracy.

For more than 35 years, we have been committed to direct democracy, fair voting rights, transparency and effective citizen participation, such as lot-based citizens' councils at all political levels. We attach great importance to the quality of exchange, debate and decision-making in order to improve democratic culture. At the same time, we oppose the dismantling of democratic rights, identify weaknesses in the political system and see ourselves as the democratic conscience of society.

A strong democracy is our shield against populism. When people feel safe, heard and respected, they are better able to deal with tensions and differing opinions and develop their creativity. That is why we create spaces in which people can meet openly and exchange ideas respectfully.

Together, we can strengthen democracy and ensure that it remains alive in everyday life. Let's work together to ensure that democracy is more than just a word - and bring it to life!
